Beginning in the 1890s, Fred Harvey and the Santa Fe Railway helped visitors from around the world to experience the surreal landscapes and Native American heritage sites of New Mexico and Arizona, including the Grand Canyon. First toured by trains met by horses and carriages at the stations, then by automobile and airplanes, the unique living history of the Southwest became the most beloved destination in the country. Today you can still experience the same scenic and fascinating Southwest Detours between the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas, NM. Fred Harvey History Weekend will be held October 27-30, 2023. There will be lectures at the New Mexico History Museum on Friday and Saturday during the day. The fundraising Fred Harvey Foodie Dinner & Auction will be held at La Fonda on Saturday October 28th at 6 PM.
