Beginning in the 1890s, Fred Harvey and the Santa Fe Railway helped visitors from around the world to experience the surreal landscapes and Native American heritage sites of New Mexico and Arizona, including the Grand Canyon. First toured by trains met by horses and carriages at the stations, then by automobile and airplanes, the unique living history of the Southwest became the most beloved destination in the country. Today you can still experience the same scenic and fascinating Southwest Detours between the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas, NM. You can stay in some of the same historic Fred Harvey hotels and dine on Harvey-inspired cuisine. And if the history intrigues you, you can take deeper dives into so many subjects!
